It all started one day in June when I found a baby duck in our backyard, scared and chirping, huddled in a corner on the deck. I captured him (with a butterfly net) and put him in a box. There were red-tailed hawks flying over the gully and I thought maybe they were going to swoop down and get this little duck. Well, he lived in our house in a box for a few days, until one day we decided to let him run around on the lawn for awhile. He went a little too far off the grass and into the "jungle" between us and our neighbor. Darren looked for him for several hours, but never found him. Hopefully he found his mother and siblings!
Fast forward to June 12th when Darren returned home from work with a small box in hand. On the box it said "Handle with loving care-live animal"! "Oh Darren, what do you have there?", I asked...
He said he made a little stop on his way home at IFA (Intermountain Farmers) and made a purchase! Inside the box were 2 ducklings, 1 brown and 1 yellow, about 2 days old. I couldn't resist, so I said we could keep them as pets (after all we have a big grassy backyard where they could hang out and eat bugs)! We named them Diva and Duckworth, and have no idea if they're male or female! They are living in big box in our storage room for now...
WORD OF WARNING...baby ducks are adorable, but poop ALOT!!
